The Pay3 MCP server is the bridge between your AI assistant and Stellar-based payments. It runs locally on your machine via npx, authenticates every request with your session’s MCP auth token, and enforces your spending policies before a single stroop moves — giving you autonomous AI payments without ever exposing your private key.

How it works

When you (or your AI agent) ask Claude to “pay Alice 5 USDC,” the request travels through a strict, policy-enforced pipeline before anything happens on-chain:
  1. Your AI assistant calls a Pay3 MCP tool.
  2. The MCP server authenticates the request using your PAY3_MCP_AUTH_TOKEN.
  3. The Pay3 Policy Engine evaluates the request against your session’s rules (spend limits, allowed assets, rate limits, and more).
  4. If the policy check passes, the transaction is submitted to the Stellar network via your Soroban smart account.
  5. The result — a Stellar transaction hash, a pending-approval notice, or a policy rejection — is returned directly to your AI assistant.
Your private key never leaves your wallet. The MCP server only holds a delegated session key scoped to the permissions you defined when you created the session.

Available tools

The MCP server exposes three tools today. Each tool maps to a specific financial action your AI assistant can perform on your behalf.

get_balance

Query the current USDC or XLM balance of your Pay3 smart account in real time.

transfer

Send USDC or XLM to a Stellar address or saved contact alias. Subject to full policy enforcement.

get_transaction_history

Retrieve the most recent transactions from the current AI session, sorted newest-first.

Compatible AI clients

The MCP server works with any client that supports the Model Context Protocol over stdio transport. Verified integrations include: Any framework that supports the MCP stdio transport can connect to Pay3 using the same configuration pattern.

Security model

Pay3 is built on the principle that your AI assistant should be powerful — but never unconstrained. The security model rests on three pillars:
  • No private key exposure. Your AI assistant never sees your wallet’s private key. It only ever holds a short-lived, scoped session key.
  • Policy-first execution. Every tool call passes through the Policy Engine before any on-chain action occurs. Spend limits, daily budgets, allowed assets, and rate limits are all enforced automatically.
  • Human-in-the-loop approvals. Transfers that exceed a threshold you define are queued for your manual approval in the Pay3 Dashboard rather than auto-executed.
